Can you hear those silent messages?
You’ve enthusiastically shared an idea to boost your company’s bottom line. “Good!” your boss says.
Sounds positive, right? So, why do you feel deflated?
In his renowned book ‘Silent Messages’, Professor Albert Mehrabian shares that our tone, facial expressions, posture and gestures can easily contradict our verbal messages.
You have the ability to hear the silence. To comprehend what isn’t been spoken. To recognise When “Good,” actually means “What on earth?!”
How can you tell when ‘yes’ means ‘no’ and vice versa?
Mehrabian shares the following equation:
7% VERBAL LIKING + 38% VOCAL LIKING + 55% FACIAL LIKING = TOTAL LIKING.
Many of my executive clients share that this equation is particularly useful for them in business and management. Motivation and attitude significantly affect outcomes. If you’re not getting the outcome you expect from colleagues, team members and stakeholders, dig deeper – what are the silent messages coming your way and what can you learn from them to get the necessary buy-in?
Where Corporate meets Wellness is being aware and conscious of the non-verbal messages you’re receiving and sending to build collaborative, healthy relationships all the way.
